Stephanie Avant joined Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury LLC in 2023, bringing a wealth of experience and a passion for written and oral advocacy. She obtained her Juris Doctorate and Certificate in Public Interest from The University of Alabama School of Law in May 2020. Because of her academic achievements and community service, Stephanie was inducted into the Bench and Bar Honor Society, Order of Barristers, and Order of Samaritan.
During law school, Stephanie held leadership roles and engaged in various activities. She served as an articles editor for the Journal of the Legal Profession and was a member of UA Law’s Trial Advocacy Competition Team and the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition Team. Stephanie’s exceptional advocacy skills were acknowledged with an award for “Outstanding Performance UA Law’s National Trial Team” and with the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association Award for “Outstanding Moot Court Team Member.”
After law school, Stephanie served as a law clerk for the Honorable Madeline H. Haikala of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
Prior to her legal career, Stephanie made a meaningful impact as a third-grade teacher with Birmingham City Schools for over a decade. Her commitment to education and her community is further demonstrated through her involvement in the creation of Alabama’s first residential camp for children with ADHD.
Stephanie’s diverse legal experiences coupled with her unique background as a teacher help her bring a compassionate and empathetic approach to her practice. Her exceptional legal acumen and passion for advocacy make her a valuable asset to Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury.
