As the newest attorney on the Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury team, Tyler Smoot unites thorough preparation with an eagerness to learn by doing. Within months of joining Spotswood, Tyler contributed to briefing for submission to the Alabama Supreme Court on behalf of international healthcare corporations, he cross examined a witness in court as to business tort claims, and he communicated directly with clients about employment issues affecting their business. He brings a passion to advocate for his clients and to apply his skills to advance their interests.
From 2021-2022, Tyler clerked for the Hon. Karon O. Bowdre of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2021, where he served as Senior Editor for the Alabama Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Law Review and participated on the Carol Andrews ABA National Moot Court Team. During law school, he earned first place in the American Constitution Society’s national student writing contest. Before law school, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School and served in part-time ministry for three years.
Tyler enjoys being a pastor’s husband and a father of two adventurous sons. In his free time, you will find him trail running or cycling around Birmingham.
